BIOGRAPHY

Jerry & Barbara’s journey began in rural north Florida. In 1974, they accepted Christ as their personal Saviour, and became active in their local church. Within a couple of years they even helped start Bible Baptist Church in Jasper, Florida.

Sensing God calling them to ministry, in 78, the Alfords moved to Greenville, SC to attend Tabernacle Baptist College and serve under the leadership of Pastor Harold Sightler. It was during those years in Greenville that they felt God guiding them to the mission field.

So, in 1982 the missions adventure began. First it was a year long stint in Mexico learning Spanish and adapting to the Latino culture. In 1983, the Alfords arrived in Venezuela where they planted their first church.

After being denied the appropriate paper work, they spent a few months in Colombia, before landing in Chile for 2 1/2 years. While in Chile a couple of churches were planted, an earthquake was survived, and several life-threatening situations were endured.

1986 was the year God did a miracle. While preparing to return for a short furlough, God opened the doors for the Alfords to return to Venezuela. Since 1986 numerous churches have been planted. Most recently a Christian radio station was established in the western part of the country.

Today more churches are being started, pastors are being trained, and God continues to provide open doors of opportunity even in face of severe opposition.
